Park questions instead of waiting overnight
Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor stopped at 02:40 with a question and waited until morning. Nightshift denies the question tool on shift and parks a default.
Updated
What should an unattended agent do when it has a question?
An unattended run cannot wait for a sleeping owner. During a shift Nightshift denies each host's native question tool with a message that tells the agent to choose a sensible production default, record the decision and its rollback in the parking lot, and keep working. You read the decisions over coffee and accept or reverse them.
The 02:40 question
The run pauses with quick question before I continue. The owner sees it at 08:00, still waiting for the answer. The useful work window is gone, the list is not done, and if an allowance reset landed that morning the remaining capacity expired unused while the same items now consume the new cycle. Nothing was wrong with the question; the wait was the failure.
Three tools, one rule
Each host exposes its question tool under its own name, and the shipped rules file carries all three: AskUserQuestion on Claude Code, request_user_input on Codex, and AskQuestion on Cursor. A non-empty value denies the tool and becomes the message the agent reads, which says to park the question with a sensible default and continue. The denial is mechanical; no wording in a template or a fetched page overrides it.
- A parked entry records the decision, the default chosen, the reasoning, and how to roll it back.
- Known later work is not a decision; it goes to the drafting table, never the parking lot.
- An agent that cannot finish an item red-tags it as needing a human and moves to the next item rather than looping.
Let it ask when you are awake
Set a host's entry to an empty string and that host may ask and wait; the shipped contract text still says park, so an owner who wants an interactive shift changes both. Running directly is explicit authority for reasonable, reversible defaults inside the stated scope, and it never extends to publishing, destructive changes, spending, or owner policy.

}Start with a bounded prompt
This prompt names the outcome and preserves Nightshift’s review boundary. Paste it into the supported coding host from the project you want to change.
Show me every decision the last shift parked, the default it chose, and how to roll each one back. Change nothing. What this workflow does not claim
- Parking removes the wait, not the decision: significant choices, rollback notes, and rejected paths stay in the parking lot for the owner to accept or reverse.
- Publishing, destructive changes, spending, and owner policy are never settled by a parked default.

Frequently asked questions
Will the agent decide something it should not?
Significant choices are recorded with a default and a rollback rather than made silently, and the scope of a default is reversible implementation work. Publishing, destructive changes, spending money, and owner policy remain out of scope for any parked default.
Can I answer a parked question while the shift is running?
Yes. An owner watching live can answer in the conversation at once; otherwise the decision waits in the parking lot for the morning and the work continues on the default.
Does this apply to Cursor as well?
Yes. Cursor's question tool, AskQuestion, is denied during a shift on the same terms as the other two hosts, and an empty string allows it.
