Research synthesis is a finite Nightshift contract for reading an explicit source set, extracting relevant evidence, reconciling disagreement, and producing a reviewable report. It works without a Git repository when Setup selects artifact mode and a durable receipts folder.
Start with a bounded question and source set
State the decision or question the report must support, the intended audience, the approved URLs or files, and any recency boundary.
- Record source title, publisher, URL, and access date.
- Prefer primary sources for factual and technical claims.
- Preserve inaccessible or missing evidence as a limitation.
Keep claims traceable
The report ties material facts to citations, labels interpretations, and shows disagreements instead of smoothing them into false certainty.
- Fact — directly supported by a source.
- Inference — reasoned from cited evidence.
- Conflict — sources disagree and the difference matters.
- Gap — the available source set cannot answer safely.
Write a durable artifact
In artifact mode, completion is a local receipt rather than a Git commit. The receipt records the scope, sources, synthesis, limitations, and the exact next action for owner review.
